NCEAS Jellyfish Working Group Agenda
Workshop 1: Introduction to Global Jellyfish Blooms
Dates: Jan 28 – Feb 1, 2010
Participants: Rob Condon (Bermuda), Monty Graham (USA), Carlos Duarte (Spain), Jenny Purcell (USA), Mary Beth Decker (USA), Kelly Robinson (USA), Lucas Brotz (Canada), Mike Dawson (USA), Kylie Pitt (Australia), Hermes Mianzan (Argentina), Steve Haddock (USA), Alenka Malej (Slovenia), Cathy Lucas (UK)
Video participants: Kelly Rakow Sutherland (USA), Ric Brodeur (USA, external WG) – conference times to be determined
Apologies: Shin-iche Uye (Japan)
Main Products: Concept paper - review (not re-analysis) of existing literature as to the basis for the common belief or perception that jellies are rising (i.e., examining the hypothesis that "jellyfish are perceived to be increasing").
Objectives:
1. Review and discuss project goals and structure (database & workshop framework, summarize guidelines for authorship, database rules for working group and external contributors etc..)
2. To summarize and identify deficiencies in datasets for all regions, begin collation of datasets and, to test database output with synthesized data
3. To define the term “jellyfish bloom” as it relates to the NCEAS project
4. To prepare draft of “concept” paper and develop a consistent group mindset to the issue of “jellyfish bloom increases”
5. Begin discussion and preparation of NCEAS II papers and other deliverable products
NCEAS I: Agenda
