Topic 2: Multiple venues for incorporation of science into policy
How does the existence of multiple mechanisms of negotiation influence how science is incorporated into policy? For example, in the Everglades, the boundary work between scientists and policy makers can be checked and undermined by the federal legal system based on the fact that U.S. law holds differing criteria for legitimacy, credibility, and salience.
A general comment on this topic from UNAM students:
It is important to develop proper analytic tools that could help to leave behind the reduccionist scopes of individuals (even of institutions), so that we can incorporate different disciplines, different problem dimensions and different needs of the stakeholders, all the above often with differential and perspectives, into integrated decision making tools.
