How to make sustainability science more easily understood?
Sustainability science seeks to understand the dynamic interactions between nature and society. It requires integrated cross-disciplinary coordination between natural science, sociology and economy. However, communications between people with different backgrounds are often very difficult. For example, during our Mondays seminars people from the area of natural science often get lost. If they are not easily understood by Ph.D students and scientists, they may be even harder to be understood by the public. But since sustainability science is use-inspired research for solving problems, it needs to be easily understood by policy makers and by the public. Similarly, a book in sustainability science may also need to communicate important ideas using as simple words as possible. In that way it will be understood by more general readers and thus have a larger impact. My question is how to bridge these gaps among different disciplines involved in sustainability science.
