Sustainability Science Education

As someone who has spent the last several years as a science teacher, I am interested in the relationships between sustainability science and education.  Though this course is designed for academia, I plan to explore what is currently being done in learning environments, both formal and informal to inform sustainability science.  In addition, I plan to look at what the relationship between education and the success (or not) of sustainability science initiatives.  I also hope to look at what are best practices for teaching sustainability science and getting the information out for public consumption.  For me, science literacy, particularly in sustainability science issues is going to incredibly important as the globe continues to increase access to education.  The issue of education has come up in discussion and I am hoping to share some ideas and perhaps collaborate on the term paper.  If anyone from UNAM is interested, I am bilingual and would appreciate the opportunity to practice my academic foreign language proficiency.

Hola Matthew, justamente hace poco tiempo coincidí con un ex-compañero de la facultad de Ciencias de la UNAM que ahora se dedica a dar clases a nivel universitario, me comentó que quería establecer contactos con gente que se relacionara con temas de sustentabilidad y cambio climático con el objetivo de aplicarlo hacia la enseñanza de la ciencia de la sustentabilidad. Él no está en este seminario pero quizá podrías intentar comunicarte con él y compartir experiencias.

Hi Matt and Juan Carlos,

As I already mentioned to Matt (I'm also from Harvard) I also intend to write my term paper about some aspects of education and exchange of knowledge with regard to the promotion of sustainability science and development. I'm not intending to focus on primary education but more on the general aspects of education and transfer of knowledge. So I'm not sure if this fits into your context, especially since I'm NOT bilingual and have no clue what Juan Carlos wrote about So if you think that any cooperation between us might be fruitful, please let me know!

Cual es el nombre de tu amigo?  Estoy haciendo un proyecto relacionando a este clase, primero revisando la literatura y despues disenando un curiculo sobre el tema de las ciencias de sustainabilidad.  Me gustaria escribirle y pedirle informacion o si me podria poner en contacto con unos companeros de el. 

Tambien tengo alguna interes en el desarollo del ecoturismo a un nivel local basado en la educacion ambiental.  He trabajado un rato por centroamerica, asi aprendi espanol.  Si conoces a algunas personas a quien deberia escribir, me ayudaria un monton.
